2 sided – the layers
The mattress has a slightly firmer and a slightly softer side, you only need to choose which one you prefer. The layers of the mattress are described below.
1. Organic cotton and merino cover
100% organic cotton cover quilted using organic merino wool. Fully removable and machine washable at maximum 30°C. The mattress is wrapped into this cover. This is the thicker outer cover.
2. 100% cotton inner cover
100% cotton thinner inner cover. Fully removable and machine washable at maximum 30°C.
3. 2 cm graphite Dunlop latex
2 cm medium-density natural graphite latex. We add a minimal amount of graphite to our latex so that the mattress has more fire protection.
4. 9 cm less-than-medium-density natural Dunlop latex
A combination of soft and medium density GOLS certified latex layers for a soft but not too soft feel.
5. 5 cm 100% natural coir
A rubberised palm coir layer made from 100% natural and biodegradable hairs from coconut husks. Strong and flexible support in your sleep that is even better than infinite springs.
6. 4 cm very dense natural Dunlop latex
A GOLS certified latex layer that is very dense making. The perfect side for those who prefer a firmer night’s sleep. This is due to the combination of a very dense and medium dense latex layer so that the mattress has a firm but not too firm side.
7. 2 cm graphite Dunlop latex
2 cm medium-density natural graphite latex. We add a minimal amount of graphite to our latex so that the mattress has more fire protection.
Firmness
On a 1 to 10 scale the firm side is about 6.5-7 firm and the soft side is about 4-5 soft.
Anti-allergy
All the materials that we use in our mattress (latex, coconut coir, wool and cotton) are naturally hypoallergenic materials and are extremely breathable.
Materials
Our philosophy is to use certified organic products wherever possible. The latex that we use in our mattress is GOLS certified organic Dunlop latex, the coir is 100% natural, the cotton and the merino wool used in our thick outer mattress cover are GOTS certified 100% organic. The mattress is completely chemical free.
Care
1. Your mattress needs to be rotated regularly.
It is not an absolute must but we recommend that you rotate your mattress regularly, as this will even out the wear and tear that is caused. Either do this by flipping the mattress over or by rotating it so that the 'head' is at the 'foot'. The 7 zones are positioned symmetrically so there is no 'head or foot end'.
2. Your mattress needs to air.
Getting air to your mattress is essential for great maintenance. When changing your bedding, it is recommended that you leave your mattress uncovered for a little bit so that the air can get to it. This keeps your mattress looking and feeling fresh.
3. Your mattress needs to be protected.
The best way to ensure your mattress stays clean and fresh is to put a protector on top of it. We sell an organic range of mattress protectors that are designed to do just that.
Otherwise take extra care whilst moving the mattress as the foam fillings can tear if grabbed or pulled on corners or edges. Also, do not use detergents or chemical cleaners on your mattress. If you do need to wash your mattress cover, make sure you do not wash it above 30 degrees. You can’t tumble dry or dry clean it either.
