GOLS certificate
GOLS stands for Global Organic Latex Standard which is a materials and processing standard for organic latex and finished latex foam. However, a certificate of this standard is not just the proof of organic raw material used; it also means that human health, safety and welfare, and environment are all respected in the manufacturing process of organic latex products. The product shall contain a minimum of 95% certified organic raw material of the total weight so that it can be labelled as GOLS certified.
Why 95% natural and not 100%?
100% natural latex simply does not exist. Why? No manufacturer can produce foam rubber without additives such as foaming agents, curing agents, accelerators, gelling agents, antidegradants, fillers. That is why these products are approximately 95% natural latex or sometimes a little higher, 97%.
At Milam, we make sure all our latex is certified with a GOLS certificate. This means that you can definitely find minimum 95% natural latex in our product.
GOTS certificate
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard, the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It requires high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and compliance with social criteria. A textile product with a GOTS label must contain a minimum of 95% certified organic fibres.
Almost all the cotton we use is purchased with a GOTS certificate. This includes the mattress’s thick outer cover, all the bedlinen (fitted sheet, pillow cover, duvet cover), the casing of our duvets and pillows. The thin inner cover of the mattress is not GOTS certified, we are working on that.
Blended-Organic Content Standard
The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is for any non-food product with 5-100% organic material. OCS guarantees transparent, consistent and comprehensive independent evaluation and verification of organic material content claims on products. It covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labelling, trading and distribution of a product that contains at least 5 percent certified ‘organic’ materials. The OCS relies on third-party verification of a final product containing the accurate amount of a given organically grown material.
Our mattress protector is awarded with this certificate. The mattress protector uses 85% cotton and 15% polyurethane in order to make it water-resistant.
